Audi R8 V10 Audi R8 V10 This new range-topping 196mph Audi R8 is the most powerful and fastest version of its mid-engined supercar and will be powered by a 5.2-litre V10 engine, based on the unit in the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4.

The V10 produces 518hp at 8,000rpm and delivers a peak torque of 390lb-ft at 6,500rpm. This R8 will accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds - 0.6 seconds faster than the existing V8 - and reach 124mph in 12 seconds with the R tronic paddleshift gearbox.

The new engine is mounted longitudinally directly behind the cockpit and is almost identical in construction to the unit powering the recently announced R8 LMS race car.

It weighs 31kg more than the existing V8 and the total weight of the car is 1620kg - 60kg more than the standard R8.

The car sits on redesigned 19" alloys and stopping power has been improved with eight-piston brakes that utilise 15" discs at the front and 14" discs at the rear. Carbon-ceramic brakes are optional.

There have also been a few changes to the exterior. Its wings and side sills have been beefed up and there are wider side cooling vents. The front grille and air intakes get a high gloss finish and so to the rear air outlets. New oval exhaust tailpipes have been included and there's a new rear diffuser.

Customers can order the car in January 2009 ready for first delivery in spring. It's available with a manual gearbox at £99,575, or £104,665 with the R-tronic auto box.
